The Grumpy Girls

The studio takes its name — and a good amount of its daily inspiration — from its two distinguished feline muses, Wallace and Yams. Once backyard kittens with questionable dental habits, both girls had most of their teeth removed shortly after moving in. This has resulted in their signature look: occasional, endearing scowls when their lips catch on their remaining teeth. Their expressive little grumps became the namesake of Grumpy Girls Ceramics, a reminder that imperfect things can be unexpectedly delightful.

Affectionately known as the Night Twins, Wallace and Yams can often be found sitting together in the dark like a pair of tiny, judgmental gargoyles — silently supervising, always observing, and possibly plotting.

Yams (a.k.a. Yamblers, Butterscotch Thiccums, Yams J. Cat, Yams Josephine Cat)

Yams is the elder stateswoman of the household and the undeniable executive presence. A self-described “horizontal cat,” she prefers life close to the ground, with windowsills representing the upper limits of her athletic ambition. What she lacks in verticality, she makes up for in culinary enthusiasm: bread, cheese, meat, and anything you’re eating right now are of particular interest. Recently — after six years of careful consideration — she has decided she is a lap cat.

With one perfect golden paw and an unshakeable belief that treats are a fundamental right, Yams serves as Snack Coordinator for the studio. She offers moral support, stares intensely during meals, and occasionally bullies her little sister (strictly for character development).

Wallace (a.k.a. Beepers, Wallace P. Cat, Wallace Pythagorus Cat)

Wallace is the baby of the family and the studio’s resident chatterbox. Known affectionately as Beepers, she communicates through a signature chirp that falls somewhere between a meow and a notification alert. A deeply vertical thinker, Wallace prefers life off the ground: scaling her cat tree, perching on furniture, and sleeping in strategically placed cardboard boxes are part of her daily agenda.

She dislikes closed doors, greets her human every morning, and requests her welcome-home butt pats from the top of an armchair — a place of honor she has claimed as her own. Wallace also maintains an active play regimen, frequently tossing toys into the air and chasing them in self-directed training drills. She is the studio’s Photography Assistant, Product Inspector, and Workspace Supervisor, handling all three roles with natural authority.
